FDOT Community Meeting Regarding Sidewalks on Atlantic Avenue

Florida Department of Transportation Community Meeting Sidewalks Atlantic Avenue

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) invites the public to attend a community meeting on Tuesday, May 28th to consider the replacement of a sidewalk on the southside of Atlantic Avenue between South 8th Street and South 10th Street in Fernandina Beach.

The current sidewalk pavers have become dislodged and present a hazard to pedestrians. To meet current FDOT pedestrian safety and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, FDOT will replace the existing sidewalk on the south side of Atlantic Avenue between South 8th and South 10th Streets and on the north side of Atlantic Avenue from east of 9th Street about 130 feet. The purpose of this modification is to improve safety and provide an uninterrupted pedestrian walkway.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 28th virtually and in-person at Fernandina Beach City Hall located at 204 Ash Street, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034. FDOT staff and consultants will be available from 4:30 to 6 p.m. to answer questions and accept comments. Project documents and virtual participation instructions are available at https://nflroads.com/virtualmeetings.

All participants, regardless of the platform they choose, will be able to view project documents, ask questions and make comments for the public record.

Based on FDOT’s respect for and commitment to historically significant locations, a Cultural Resource Assessment Survey (CRAS) was conducted to explore and define the significance of the specific site, the area of potential effects and the historic district. FDOT’s approach and plan for corrective measures in this instance have been guided by the study and resulting report.

Public participation is solicited without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability or family status. Persons who require special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act or who require translation services (free of charge) should contact Briana Ray-Turner at (904) 360-5481 at least seven days prior to the meeting.
