National Red Cross Month
At the meeting held on Monday. March 25, 2024, the Board of County Commissioners approved Proclamation No. 2024-014 proclaiming March 2024 as National Red Cross Month in Nassau County, Florida. March has been recognized across the nation as National Red Cross Month since 1943 when the first proclamation was issued by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. The American Red Cross responds to more than 65,000 disasters annually, and delivers vital services to members of the Armed Forces, their families, and veterans at home and oversees, and has provided lifesaving health and safety training to more than five million people in 2023.
The North Florida Region and Northeast Florida Chapter of the American Red Cross helped more than 1,200 families affected by home fires or other disasters in 2023. They provided 13,000 vital services to military members, veterans, and families and deployed more than 200 of its 1,000 volunteers in response to hurricanes and other disasters in Florida and nationally.
The Board of County Commissioners commends the National Red Cross for their continuing humanitarian service to Nassau County, as well as the State of Florida.
