Jacksonville Attorney Tom Slater Appointed to JAXPORT’s Board of Directors
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Nov. 29, 2023) – Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan has appointed attorney Tom Slater to JAXPORT’s Board of Directors. The Jacksonville City Council unanimously approved Slater’s appointment on November 28.
Slater is an attorney with the law firm of Pajcic & Pajcic, with practice areas that include maritime, trucking and aviation law. He is a board-certified trial attorney licensed in Florida, Georgia, and Virginia.
A civic leader passionate about giving back to the community, Slater currently serves on the PACE Center for Girls board and has served as President of Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, the Jacksonville Justice Association, the Jacksonville Speech and Hearing Center, and on numerous committees of the Florida Bar.
“I have known Tom for 25 years. He is a fantastic attorney and an even better person,” said JAXPORT Chair Daniel Bean, an attorney and partner at ABL Law, P.A. “His knowledge and expertise in law makes him a wonderful addition to our Board. JAXPORT has an unpaid, appointed seven-member Board of Directors which provides policy guidance. The Board currently has one vacant seat. The Mayor of Jacksonville appoints four board members, and the Governor of Florida appoints three. Board members serve four-year terms and may be appointed to one additional term.
JAXPORT is Florida’s largest container port and one of the nation’s top vehicle-handling ports. Cargo activity through Jacksonville’s seaport generates 138,000 jobs and $31 billion in annual economic output for the region and state.
