Maria Hane to Speak at the August EmpowHER event

The AIFBY Chamber of Commerce program for Nassau County's professional women is pleased to announce that Maria Hane, President of the Museum of Science & History of Jacksonville (MOSH) will be the featured speaker for the August 14 program. EmpowHER will meet on Monday, August 14, 2017, 11:30 a.m. at the Fernandina Beach Golf Course Club House. This bi-monthly program consists of professional and personal development and networking.

In her eight year tenure at MOSH, Ms. Hane has increased the Museum’s operating budget by 46%; led $2 million in capital improvements. Under her leadership the Museum revealed a new brand marking its 75th anniversary. Maria has initiated a ten-year Master Plan for growth to expand the Museum’s footprint, renovate its current space and actively connect MOSH to the St. Johns River and Downtown. The Museum served more than 239,000 people in 2015-16 setting new attendance records over 75 years of continuous community service. Ms. Hane is a founding member of Cultural Fusion, a collaborative network of arts and cultural organizations in Jacksonville leveraging the power of the collective to lead change in the community. Her leadership in collaborative work qualified her as a National Arts Strategies Chief Executive Program fellow and for the 2014 Innovation and Collaboration Change Agent Award presented by the Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida and recognized by the Human Rights Commission.

Throughout her leadership at MOSH the Museum has received numerous awards for excellence including those from the Historic Preservation Commission and City of Jacksonville, Regional Planning Council and JASMYN. Ms. Hane graduated summa cum laude from the University of North Florida with a Bachelor’s of Art in Communications. Prior to her position at MOSH, Hane served as Deputy Director of Operations at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens and as the Director of Written Communications for Jacksonville Mayor John D. Delaney. With more than twenty-five years of leadership experience in the nonprofit and public service sector, Ms. Hane has served in key positions with extensive experience in volunteer and board development, communications, governance and strategic planning. She has served as a presenter at national conferences for ASTC (Association for Science and Technology Centers), AAM (American Alliance for Museums) and the Florida Association of Museums. Maria is an active community mentor for several young professionals in the cultural and nonprofit sectors.

She currently serves on the Boards of the Florida Association of Museums, Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida, Visit Jacksonville, Atlantic Institute, Cultural Fusion and the Jacksonville Chamber Board of Governors. She is an active member of Leadership Jacksonville Class of 2002 serving for three years on the Leadership Development Team and as Chair for Arts & Culture Day, and is a member of the Jacksonville Women’s Network.
